On Friday night, just hours after the 2010 WPS Draft in Philadelphia, PUMA and the WPS unveiled the 2010 uniforms worn by veteran players from the league’s nine teams as well as nine newly-drafted players who proudly wore their team colors for the first time.
Fusing fashion with sport, PUMA launched the newly-designed uniforms from the Power collection, which highlighted both performance as well as style. The WPS athletes in attendance were: Atlanta Beat: Leigh Ann Robinson, Defender and Tobin Heath, #1 draft pick for WPS 2010 Boston Breakers: Leslie Osborne, Midfielder & PUMA Athlete and Lauren Cheney Chicago Red Stars: Ella Masar, Forward and Whitney Engen FC Gold Pride: Tiffeny Milbrett, Forward and Kelley O’Hara Los Angeles Sol: Manya Makoski, Defender and Casey Nogueira Philadelphia Independence: Amy Rodriguez, Forward & PUMA Athlete and Caroline Seger Sky Blue FC: Yael Averbuch, Midfielder and Brittany Taylor St Louis Athletica: Kendall Fletcher, Defender and Angie Kerr, Midfielder Washington Freedom: Cat Whitehill, Defender and Nikki Marshall

After its tour through Philadelphia, the 2010 Official WPS Power C1.10 match ball was unveiled on FSC at the NSCAA Convention with the help of WPS Commissioner, Tonya Antonucci and LA Sol goal keeper, Karina LeBlanc.

This past Saturday at the WPS Year-End Awards Gala in Saint Louis, the PUMA Golden Boot Award was presented to Marta for her outstanding performance during the inaugural season as the #1 goal scorer across all of the league’s seven teams. With an impressive ten goals, Marta’s unofficial title as the best female player in the world stands strong.
In addition to winning the Golden Boot Award, Marta took home the 2009 Michelle Akers Player of the Year Award, which recognizes the player judged to have the greatest impact on her team’s performance during the WPS regular season. The winner was selected upon a vote by general managers, player, media and fans.
“My first season in the United States has been a truly rewarding experience, both on and off the field,” said PUMA athlete, Marta. “I came here to play with the best in the world and I thank PUMA, Los Angeles Sol and WPS for an amazing opportunity.”
