This past Saturday at the WPS Year-End Awards Gala in Saint Louis, the PUMA Golden Boot Award was presented to Marta for her outstanding performance during the inaugural season as the #1 goal scorer across all of the league’s seven teams.  With an impressive ten goals, Marta’s unofficial title as the best female player in the world stands strong.

  In addition to winning the Golden Boot Award, Marta took home the 2009 Michelle Akers Player of the Year Award, which recognizes the player judged to have the greatest impact on her team’s performance during the WPS regular season.  The winner was selected upon a vote by general managers, player, media and fans.

“My first season in the United States has been a truly rewarding experience, both on and off the field,” said PUMA athlete, Marta.  “I came here to play with the best in the world and I thank PUMA, Los Angeles Sol and WPS for an amazing opportunity.”

The PUMA Cube will be the place to be before the All-Star Game this Sunday, August 30th at the Soccer Park in Fenton, MO.  Two hours before game-time (2:30pm-4:30pm CT), the gates will open and fans are invited to come check out the PUMA Cube in the All-Star Village.  Cube activities include:

Vote for your WPS All Stars! 

With just two weeks left in the WPS Regular Season, the WPS All-Star Game votes are coming in fast. The fan vote closes on July 31 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, so there’s still time for you to select your favorite PUMA and WPS stars to play in the inaugural WPS All-Star Game when the WPS All-Stars take on Swedish champion and PUMA club Umea IK at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, MO, on Sunday, August 30 with live coverage on Fox Soccer Channel and select Fox Sports Nets beginning at 5pm Eastern.

The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, MO, has been chosen as the host site of the 2009 WPS All-Star Game on August 30, 2009. PUMA is thrilled that Saint Louis has been selected and that the game will incorporate an international opponent which will take on the 18-woman WPS All-Star squad. The international opponent will be revealed in the near future and the WPS roster will be chosen in late July.
